PPF – Paint Protection Film

This is the application of a polyurethane film to stop the damage caused by stones, pebble dashing and car park rubs.

The products we use are self-healing, which means if scratched, they will repair in the sun or with the application of heat. We always use patterns where available, but we will also advise at the consultation if A: the kits are available and B: if there is a chance of cutting on the car. The manufacturer will warranty against yellowing or staining of the film for 10 years; we give a year warranty on the installation of the product; any problems will show long before then.

Why Protect your Car with PPF?

Protect Originality

We usually install PPF on high-end, expensive cars. The film protects your residual values at trade-in or selling; if the car is entirely original and has an unblemished finish, it’s worth more to the second owner or garage as they don’t have to pay out for coachwork.

Matching Paint

Even the best spectrographs are a gamble, so by applying the film, you can remove the risk of lousy paint jobs; even if the car gets “rubbed” in the car park, usually the damage is isolated to the film and replaced, cheaper than a body shop bill.

How does the process work?

Decontaminate and wash the car to remove any dirt/dust particles

Clay bar the paint to make sure its perfectly smooth

If required we will machine polish the paint to remove scratches

Once this is completed we move to applying the film

We spray the panel with slip solution and line up the film, squeegeeing out the water as we go

Once the film has dried we heat seal the film, to ensure that the film edges adhere to the surface

Clive Ford – PPF Installer

I have been trained in a few films over the 15 years I’ve been in the industry. I originally travelled to Austin, Texas, to train at the Xpel Factory; I was the first from the UK to get training as Xpel UK didn’t exist, but after ten years, I left the company. As I started independently, I picked the market-leading SunTek but found the adhesive needed improvement and moved to Premiumshield. They were bought over by SunTek and discontinued, and that’s when I found LEGEND Paint Protection through Owen Lloyd in Germany. I have been using them for a year and a half now. The clarity is great, the film is excellent, and the adhesive is perfect; it also has a market-leading 12-year warranty. I have been to help them exhibit the film at the Silverstone race circuit and SEMA in Las Vegas. I’m so happy with the film, support, and family feel of the company. It gives me the confidence to sell the products and support LEGEND.
